How to Forward Email Appropriately
Bulletin – Saturday, October 25, 2008
Email etiquette extends beyond the rules for drafting an original email. Here are a few rules to keep in mind when forwarding an email, regardless of the circumstances or reasons for so doing.
- When you forward an email, delete the header information from the prior email message. You must click the Forward button first and then you will have full editing capabilities against the body and headers of the message.
- Whenever you send an email to a group do not use the To: or Cc: fields for adding email addresses. Instead, use the BCC: (blind carbon copy) field to list all of the recipients: doing this will prevent others in the list from seeing all of the other email addresses you are sending to.
- Remove the‘FW:’ in the subject line or re-name the subject if you wish.
- Avoid forwarding multiple emails at the same time. When you do, each email is treated as an attachment and is more cumbersome for your recipient to open.
- Check out the source on any Amber Alert, Online Petition or a Virus Alert, floating around the Net before you choose to forward a message to your friends and associates. Most of them are junk mail that has been circulating the web for years.
Respect email privacy and think before you forward!
