What To Do in the Event of an Accident

Bulletin – Monday, February 16, 2009
Accidents happen, even to the best drivers. The first question most drivers ask after an accident is "What do I do?" Producers who write insurance for Truckers or Commercial Auto business can help their clients be better prepared.

A driver should have these items in their vehicle at all times: driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. We also recommend that the driver carry these items in the vehicle: camera, cell phone, notebook and pen, flashlight, and warning devices.

Drivers of commercial vehicles also need to know what to do - and what not to do. For example, do exchange information with other parties; do not admit fault or accept offers to settle or agree to forget about a minor accident.

We provide several valuable resources to help your customer when accidents occur. On the company page, click on the view profile link for the carrier in question. Here, you will find information on how to report a loss and if there is 24-hour reporting available, how to go about doing that. On the policy page (in our secure policies area), we also provide a link to our claims rep and information on how to report a loss.

A handy new tool we have added is the Accident Kit, which insurance producers can print for their Truckers and Commercial Auto customers. It is a good idea for the policyholder to keep an Accident Kit in every glove box or cab of their trucks. This will help drivers know what to do in the event of an accident.

Help your customers and their drivers be better prepared in the event of an accident and help in the claims handling and settlement process. Don’t forget, agent’s still need to report all claims to Tuscano’s.
