Celebrating ‘40’ years

Newsletter – Monday, May 17, 2010

Many of you have heard that the Tuscano Agency is celebrating 40 years in business this year. I prefer to think of it as a 40th birthday rather than a 40th anniversary - I remember turning 40 and it was a lot of fun! So, we decided we would have fun turning 40 (again) and the anniversary stuff can wait until we are really old. In fact, I wanted to say hey and thanks to all of our friends in the Scranton area who joined us a few weeks ago for our reception at the Tripp House. It was especially nice to see old friends and meet some of our newest ones.

We also celebrated the retirement of two good friends and co-workers recently - Linda Edinger and Ina Seibert. Of course it wouldn’t be a retirement party without the photo slideshow from past happenings and laughing at how we looked in the 80’s. One very observant person commented that in almost every picture we had drinks in our hands. It is very reassuring to know that we haven’t changed at all.

Even as we turn 40 we are hip enough to stay current with our technology! Our most recent transition has been an update of our management system that has required hands on training for all of our staff. I would like to mass-apologize for the times you have tried to get someone on the phone only to hear “they are in training’ – always a dicey situation. But we are wrapping that up soon and things should be better than normal. Our technology goal is that our tools are so good they will make you look awesome to your customer. If a computer could give super-powers then I would want ours to do that for you!

A new management system and a couple of retirements is not all that’s been going on at Tuscano. We have had a few internal moves as well. Lisa Roberts, who has been in Policy Service, recently joined the Personal Lines team as an underwriter. Go Lisa! Sue Montgomery, who was in Personal Lines, moved to the Commercial Lines Property & Package Team to work with JoAnn Lennert. Jamie Clawson has moved to the Heavy Casualty & Professional Liability Team and will be assisting Debbie Stoner. Finally, Matt Barbera has moved to the Small Business Unit. The SBU team of Renee, Jeanette, and Matt has BIG plans for this year!

In fact, one of the best and most popular programs SBU writes is Vacant Property. We have made it so simple that even a caveman can write it! By using the Tuscano Vacant Residential Property Rater you can get a quote any time of the day or night in minutes. The rater has coverage options for replacement cost and special perils, you get a complete quote proposal with sample forms and when you are ready, you can bind the account online. Not only do we make it easy to write this business, we have very competitive rates and will quote almost anything.

Too bad we couldn’t have made a win for the Penguins in game 7 of the hockey playoffs this easy! Once I get over the loss to the Montreal Canadians, (who I have to admit played with determination and gusto) I will (gulp) wish the Philadelphia Flyers the best as they have played hard to make a serious run for the Cup.

Oh well, Go Pirates!

P.S. I was recently accused of using a ghost writer for this letter. Kathleen I appreciate your reading my letter anyway!
