Protecting Our Future

Newsletter – Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Mind if I get a little political on you today? I was all ready to talk about the BP oil spill in the Gulf but after the President’s remarks last night I think I may need to check myself. What is happening in the Gulf Coast is sure to be a real environmental game-changer. The way I see it is when something this big goes wrong, the President is next in line after God to take the blame. I just hope we stop the finger-pointing real soon and start empowering the people who are closest to the disaster and probably know better than anyone else what needs done.

I believe in the promise to protect and indemnify and the specialized service insurance professionals provide - that’s why we come to work everyday. While we don’t insure companies the size of BP, our customer’s needs are just as important and the losses they suffer are devastating, but maybe not as bad as they could be when we do our job well. If nothing else helps you sell insurance for the rest of the year, you ought to at least take this moment to educate your clients that yes – the worst can and someday will, happen.

When I first got into this business, insurance for Day Care centers was practically unobtainable – we had exactly one carrier that would write the GL and the maximum limit was $50,000. Ever since then, Tuscano has been a leader in providing this coverage. When you think about it, this insurance product protects our most prized possessions. Fortunately, we have markets with broad coverage and experience and the product we sell is top-shelf. We can insure large centers that have hundreds of kids at numerous locations or the in-home care provider licensed for 6 children. The policy we offer is priced competitively and is comprehensive in its coverage form. The SBU team is able to get you a quote with a simple app and usually has it back to you in a day. You can count on them to go the extra mile for you and the kids!

Despite all of that is going on in the world, the Spring of 2010 will conjure joyful memories for me. Our Gracie graduated 9th grade in a class of 16 from the small independent school that she has attended for the past 10 years. You may think (like I did) that it is just ninth grade, right? Wrong. The dress, the shoes, the gift, the lunch, the parties were all integral parts. After thousands of pictures, (a few of which are posted on our Facebook page) the ceremony finally began. First the speeches were delivered, then the remembrances, then the awards. Now Grace is a lot smarter than her dear old Dad, but does not get as good of grades as her best friend Lili, so when the top performance awards were handed out in each subject, Grace was not called even for her favorite subject, Biology. But when they called for the recipient of the Founder’s Award, given to the student who shows the greatest character, charity, and compassion towards her peers, Grace’s name was called, and her Dad got a little teary-eyed. My sister Jinny said it best, “when it is all said and done, all we really want is for our children to be better than we are, not have more than we do.”

Thanks for letting me share and have a great day!
