Recovery. There is a lot of talk about this simple word in the news and on people’s lips lately. On Wall Street and in Washington, of course, recovery is all about economics. On the Gulf Coast and for the folks that are facing the real-life effects of an oil spill, recovery is hands-on and hard work. For the people in Detroit, recovery is about redefining who they are, not just individually, but collectively as a community. And in Pittsburgh, recovery is about overcoming the Steelers disappointing 2009 season and embarrassing off-season shenanigans.
Even the most highly-rated athletes or teams will have to go through a rebuild or a recovery period from time to time. One thing I am pretty sure about though is that recovery and winning are not synonymous. Recovery takes into account the needs of everyone - from the bottom of the distribution chain to the very top. The problem with winning (at all costs) is that the rewards only go to those with the resources to take the risks. Somewhere in between the two is a place where we as agents might have a voice - based on our relationships and front-line experience.
My underwriters are giving me excellent feedback on several of our markets and the activity we are generating. We are seeing more authority to quote contract business and our brokerage markets are working very hard to get a competitive quote into your hands. We recently wrote a manufacturing property with over $14M in values as well as a $12M vacant commercial building. We have also worked on and written several ‘nice’ sized trucking accounts. The reason that I bring this to your attention is that you should be giving us a shot at your large commercial E&S business. Tuscano underwriters are eager to show you their stuff!
Recovery from anything – the flu, a bad personal experience, or economic downturn – is all relative to the good people you surround yourself with. Choose your business partners wisely. Use your voice to let them know what will make you more successful and make sure their values align with yours.
Tuscano people are good people!
