Breakfast

Newsletter – Tuesday, March 1, 2011

The Tuscano family has a typical morning routine. I am an early riser and make breakfast for my middle-school son Sam. As is typical for boys his age, Sam sometimes struggles in the classroom to stay ‘focused’. So my contribution to his educational achievement is a good breakfast every morning. I scramble up eggs, cook a little sausage and toast the bread to perfection. (The truth is since I have been on a diet, I steal a bite of the sausage – otherwise I would make myself two big patties smothered in onions and some toast…) Then there is my high-school daughter Grace who absolutely refuses to eat in the mornings but who still claims injury because I make breakfast for her brother and not her. This, in my opinion, is a misguided perception of favor and necessity.

According to Webster, perception has several meanings but all imply an intentional action. In my opinion, it is more than what we notice – in fact it is often what we fail to notice. For instance, many of you willingly declare that the people at Tuscano are great - friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I value this feedback especially because it comes from your first-hand experience. On the other hand, we are constantly battling the perception that we are only good at the ‘small accounts’. For some reason, many of our customers miss what we can offer – a valued relationship, great markets and skilled underwriters that can write the larger more complicated exposures in contracting, manufacturing, professional, trucking fleets, and high limits property - shame on you for skipping breakfast! I am on a mission to change this perception because you deserve great service on all of the business you broker, and Tuscano is the organization that CAN do it for you.

You can’t help living in PA and hearing about Marcellus Shale gas drilling. We welcome any inquiries about coverage, markets or products you may be in need of – yes, there is a broker in PA who can help you write this business – at least the insurance coverage doesn’t have to be outsourced! When it comes to energy and mining products, coal is still king and we have years of expertise in this industry as well. Coal trucks are one of the largest single classes of business we write. You could surmise that makes us the best broker to work with for coal, sand, and gravel haulers – and you would be correct. We love trucking and we would love to help you write this business.

Another class we are well-known for is restaurants. Some of you have carriers who are taking a second look at some of the business they have on the books and we are more than happy to help if expedience requires you to replace coverage. We have great markets and we can write all of the supporting exposures from the liquor liability to the equipment breakdown. Our team of underwriters knows this business inside and out so pick up the phone – they will be happy to discuss the merits of an account with you.

I hope your day started off right with a good breakfast, but if not, you know you can change that by giving Tuscano a call!

Cheerios,
