One of the 'Next Big Things'

Newsletter – Friday, November 18, 2011

One of the ‘Next Big Things’ to happen in Teri and my lives is sending our daughter off to college in exactly 1 year, 8 months, and 20 days. It is easy for Grace to describe the kind of college she hopes to attend - small, strong academics, heavy in teacher involvement, beautiful campus, and oh yes, very expensive. What has been difficult for Grace is making up her mind about her field of interest or major will be.

As many kids do, Grace had a fantasy career in marine biology that is, until a friend told her she could look forward to a life of being cold, wet, and poor. She may have been able to deal with the cold and wet part, but my daughter would never survive eating ramen noodles. It is a good thing that she has been thinking about a fallback career. One that is currently under consideration is Early Childhood Education and Development. Somehow I don’t think studying children will be any more lucrative than studying fish.

As a career, I would have to say that insurance is a well-kept secret. I can’t think of any other business where I can learn something new every day, solve complex problems, and feel like I am truly helping people. In this economy, it is a challenge to get real value for a dollar and not just pinch pennies.

So what is new and exciting at Tuscano? Well, we are hitting the mark on several product lines. Our Work Comp markets are getting closer to ‘covering all the bases’ and that means we are hitting on some nice accounts. If you have a WC account on your desk, give Michelle or Robin a call and they’ll let you know if you should send it in.

The Transportation team is fired up and writing some nice new truck accounts – owner-operators and fleets. Here is a team of professionals that really know about value! They do so much more than take ‘orders’. They are knowledgeable, proactive, helpful, competitive, and they love to win! If you have a trucking account – from water-haulers to people-haulers – and could use a hand, call Tuscano and use the magic word ‘truck’!

Of course everyone at Tuscano is special, but the Small Business Unit (aka SBU) are so helpful they are like holiday elves. The SBU team focuses on writing small program business, and holiday and seasonal accounts are their specialty. Christmas tree lots, holiday kiosks, light-up programs, and holiday displays are all within their area of expertise. Even better is the fact they are fast on delivering their quotes – 24 hours or less. With only 38 days until Christmas, you will appreciate their speed and excellent service.

I have a good friend who is an educator and offered to give Grace some insight into the educational field. She pointed out that every child needs to feel three things: love, belonging, and purpose. As I thought about this, I realized that kids aren’t the only ones who need these assurances. That’s what I live for and why I love being in this business.

As we get nearer to the holidays, be sure to give thanks for the men and women serving our country in the armed forces.
We thank you for your business and your friendship.
