American Dream!

Newsletter – Friday, June 1, 2012

Baseball, apple pie… hmm what was that third thing?  Apparently these added up to the American Dream.  I wonder how much of the American Dream has become the Great Expectation?  I think my kids were born with expectations – but I’ll save that for another newsletter.  All of us want our children to be safe and secure, but somehow we got the idea that meant they had to have ‘more’.  Lately I’ve been hearing that this is the generation that will go ‘backwards’ and be less prosperous than their parents.

Our parents and grandparents had expectations too. They expected to work hard.  My grandfather‘s dream was to have a farm, which he did for a while.  However, he lost that farm in the Depression because of a late spring frost, which destroyed the buds on his fruit trees, and consequently any expectations of a profitable harvest.  Instead, he made a different life for his family as a district manager for the ‘old’ Farm Bureau (the ‘new’ Nationwide).  My father worked as a Teamster in the Strip District of Pittsburgh.  He would work an 8-hour shift loading trucks and then another 8 hours driving truck.  His dream was to not have to work 16 hours straight on the docks.  He traded ‘up’ for working day and night building a wholesale insurance agency.  The little agency that started on the front porch of the Tuscano home has grown because of the solid foundation Bill Tuscano laid.

Now we face a different set of challenges – markets, regulations, and technology – as well as greater expectations – from customers and ourselves.  In spite of all this (or because of it) we still have a dream to be the best in our market and invaluable to our customer.  Oh, and we also dream that the Pittsburgh Pirates will finish a season above .500 someday (soon, please).

A lot of your customers have dreams to build a successful business.  As insurance professionals, we can help with that dream.  Contractors come to mind because they are the classic ‘small business start-up’. Hopefully you know by now that Tuscano loves to write your contractor business! Trades and Artisans are a specialty, so much so that we developed an online rating tool just for these classes. You can get a quote for your customer in minutes. We have even provided options for tool and installation floaters with each quote.  Fast turn-around, competitive pricing, and broad coverage is what you should expect and what Tuscano delivers.

Kids will be finishing up the school year very soon, so I should also mention that Tuscano has an excellent child care BOP that we can write very competitively on admitted paper.  This program offers broad coverage forms and no sexual abuse exclusions. We have a market for almost any child care risk, so don’t hesitate to send all of your business this way!

Send more business – we love the work!
