I’ll be honest with you; I did not mind the news coverage of the Storm of the Century because it shifted the coverage off the upcoming election! Only after I saw the destruction and disruption Sandy caused do I regret thinking so shallowly. Now that it is over, I am hoping that folks affected by the storm won’t be dissuaded to vote on Election Day. Your vote is your voice and it does count.
The other day I was driving my son Sam to the bus stop and I asked him if he could vote, who would he vote for? To my surprise, he turned off his gaming device and said “I am not old enough to vote but I would look at what President Obama has done over the last 4 years and then look at what Mr. Romney is promising to do and make a decision”. Since we were communicating (which rarely happens on such a level), I decided to probe for more. I asked him if he thought he would be a good leader someday. His reply was that he didn’t think he was cut out to be a leader but he would make a good #2 man! Sam went on to explain that he didn’t want to be blamed for anything that went wrong. But, if he was the oldest and there were a bunch of younger kids that needed help, he would take the job! You and I should take our cue from Sam – while we may never be President, there are plenty of opportunities and need for leadership no matter what your role in life.
leader (noun) 1. somebody whom people follow; somebody who guides or directs others.
In this respect I think that Tuscano Underwriters qualify as leaders in our marketplace and they are certainly a terrific asset to you as you search for markets to write your brokerage business. One line of business where their expertise can be invaluable is Heavy Casualty. Our team in the HC department has extensive knowledge of both the industries and the markets related to the risk. They have proven expertise to handle everything from General Contractors to Demolition Contractors, Oil and Gas Contractors, Environmental, Manufacturing, and Products Liability. Tim, Dina, and Deb all have over 30 years experience in the business, so that makes Robin the rookie with only 15 years. (Since he is a Tuscano, there is much more pressure on him to keep up). We really have a great team that loves a challenge - not just to find the best price, but the right carrier and the best coverage for your customer.
I am sure many of you are swamped with calls and are focusing on helping your clients to recover from the storm damage. If there is anything you need us to do, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone. We also have loss reporting information available to you on our website – either under the Company profile or on the specific policy screen.
What we don’t have is a political agenda, but do make it a point to get out and vote on Tuesday – if you haven’t done so already!
