Top picks for 2013

Newsletter – Wednesday, January 2, 2013

I hope you had pleasant holidays. This year my family and I spent New Year’s Eve in a pretty low key but thoroughly enjoyable way playing darts and watching the ball drop in Times Square. Of course I got to listen to my daughter critique the entire musical guest line-up (Taylor Swift – thumbs up, Justin Bieber thumbs down).  Amazingly midnight arrived faster than I thought possible and we celebrated with champagne toasts, and a rousing chorus of Auld Lang Syne. According to Wikipedia, the song is a call to remember long-standing friendships and recalling days gone by. I’m all for that.

Looking back on the days of 2012, I have to say Tuscano had a very good year.  While the market and some of our carriers gave us some challenges, we had more opportunities to write your business this year than any time in the past - thank you! What’s more, we accomplished this not because we acquired some hallmark company or program, but because we have great people that understand service and love to solve your insurance problems.

We were also fortunate to hire several new staff this year: Daya, Ryan L., Ryan S., Aimee, Terri M., Karen, Sandy, and Mistey! I am still waiting for my thank you card from President Obama for single-handedly boosting the economy in 2012. We have a great team of people working here and we are all made better by the people around us. We have stayed focused on our mission and have not been distracted from our strategic goals.

As for 2013, I predict it will be an even better year.  I doubt that we will see any real difference in the market as far as increased pricing or standard carriers abandoning classes of business. What will make the difference is self-driven: We will make new friends and keep nurturing established relationships. Our phone bill will go up because we will talk to you more often.  We plan to see more of our customers than any year before and we’ll have more fun at our jobs because we will seize the opportunities that are before us.

Here are my top 5 picks for 2013 –

Trucking – we are writing more and more of this business, whether it is fleet business or a 1-man operation.

Professional Liability - we have some great markets that make writing miscellaneous E&O a breeze.

Property – our capacity has gone way up and we are poised to put together great numbers for large lines of property as well as your small business account. And we can now write that business in 19 East Coast & Mid-West states. Plus Texas!

Personal Lines – Keep it simple! We are your one-stop shop including specialty personal lines.

Small Business is great business! Tuscano has a team of underwriter dedicated to writing your small business accounts – day care, beauty salons, contractors or vacant dwellings. Quotes are fast and competitive.

I promised you 5 picks, but honestly, there isn’t anything at Tuscano you won’t be pleased with. It’s a new year - make a resolution to work with Tuscano and get better service, faster quotes, all while making insurance fun again!

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup!
And surely I’ll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand my trusty friend!
And give us a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.
