Help for PDF Applications

Bulletin – Monday, February 25, 2013

Hello everyone, I am Ryan Lucas - a relatively new addition to the Tuscano Agency. I was hired in October of 2012 as a member of the support department.

My official title here is Web Developer, and my job is to help keep the website and its tools up to date and functioning properly.

I am writing today because we've been receiving a lot of support requests related to our Applications section of the website - specifically the fill-able PDFs. Here's the problem:

Google Chrome users and Mac users may be unable to submit and/or save our fill-able PDFs.

If you're experiencing this problem, read on!

First, to properly use our fill-able PDFs, it is required to download Adobe reader, no matter what system or browser you use. You probably already have this, but if not, a link to download the most recent version is featured in the applications sidebar, and I'll put it here too: Download Adobe Reader.

**It is also important to note that while you are filling out the application, you should work with the fill-able PDF in the browser only.  DO NOT save a copy to your desktop and fill it out from that location - you will run into issues when submitting the PDF.

Once you have Adobe reader, that should solve the problems for Mac users. Just be sure that when you are using your web browser (any except Google Chrome - which I'll discuss below), you see the Adobe toolbar when viewing a PDF. It looks like this:

Adobe Reader Toolbar example

Now, if you prefer to use Google Chrome for browsing, you may still be unable to work with our fill-able PDFs... read on!

By default, Google Chrome will use its own PDF viewer when accessing PDF files. Google's PDF reader does not play nice with fill-able PDFs unfortunately, so you'll need to disable the default Google PDF viewer and make sure you're using Adobe Reader inside of chrome. Here's how:

Step 1: Open Google Chrome.

Step 2: In the address bar, type "chrome:plugins". You should see a screen like this:

Google Chrome Plugin View

Step 3: Look for Chrome PDF Viewer and select disable (be sure you see Adobe Reader plugin on the list and it is enabled too - if not be sure you have adobe reader installed).

Now, when you open a PDF in Chrome, you should see the adobe toolbar pictured above. If you're still having issues with our fill-able PDFs, please send an email to webmaster@tuscano.com or call us at 1-800-442-8063.
