I have a Post-Marathon-Relay-Update; I survived! What did I learn from this? First of all, training and preparation do make a world of difference, and even a little is better than none. Secondly, when you are out there running in a crowd of tens of thousands, momentum is in your favor. And finally, look up, look around, and smile! My co-workers and I had an awesome experience and if you would like to see our smiles, we posted plenty of pictures on our
Facebook page.
As the school year winds down and summer approaches, those of us with teenagers start to ponder what they will do all summer; we hope anything but hang around the house! When I was young we were expected to find summer employment – at the corner store, the municipal pool, or the local nursing home! Somehow, it has fallen on mine and Teri's shoulders to come up with suitable employment for our two teens. Sam needs a job where he’ll be tolerated and Grace needs a job where she’ll be accommodated!
I made the mistake of offering Grace a summer job at the agency, but she thinks insurance is boring! I may have felt the same way when I was 18 but I must have liked the perks, because I never left! It didn’t take long for me to discover that insurance - and especially excess and surplus lines - is interesting, challenging, and most of all, important. I love the fact that the role we play in the economics of our society is one that is necessary and noble. It is a little hard to hear Grace say that she has no desire to come work at the agency, but then, neither did Jinny. I have a feeling that once she gets some experience in the ‘real’ world, she will at least gain some appreciation for her dear old Dad’s passion.
We continue to experience good things here at Tuscano. Submissions are up all around. We are sending quotes on everything from manufacturing to daycare to trucks and vacant properties in higher numbers than ever before. I hope that you are seeing this as a good indication that Tuscano can handle your brokerage business and take good care of your customers' needs.
One class in particular where we have experienced increasing success is welding contractors. Some standard carriers are looking at their books and asking “Why are we writing insurance on an operation that begins with someone lighting a very hot torch and placing it against something they don’t own?!” Welding work is as varied a class as one can get; whether it’s maintaining a gas drilling site or a ‘Weld your own Stuff’ operation. We are also writing a lot of welders running repair shops. However your customer manages to apply their torch, calling Tuscano first to place that business is a solid move.
Remember - look up, look around, smile, and have a great day!
