Last week I was helping my son Sam with homework – vocabulary words to be exact. His assignment was to find synonyms for the words on his vocab list. I am from the Encyclopedia Britannica generation, so when I need to look something up, I go to the bookshelf. But before I did, I called out to my wife “Where’s the dictionary?” From the other room she replied, “Just Google it.”

One of the words on Sam’s list was ‘reputation’. After a general discussion about the definition of reputation, “Overall quality or character as seen or judged by people in general,” we picked character as our synonym. Sam was quick to point out that reputation is not just used in a positive context. I followed this by using both words in a sentence, “I find that the U.S. Congress is facing a serious challenge to both reputation and character.” But that is territory I am smart enough not to traverse.

At Tuscano, we care about our good reputation – it is a part of our DNA. Bill Tuscano built the foundation of our business on his reputation for honesty, hard work, and humor. Forty-three years later we have earned a reputation for being professional, knowledgeable, and friendly insurance people who deliver great customer service. I know for a fact that the people at Tuscano take pride in this and our customers depend on it.

Because of this, we face our challenges head-on. As you are probably aware, A.M. Best has downgraded three of our markets in the last month – Tower, Regis, and Founders. Typically this is not critical but we desire to provide strong carriers who are able to meet your customer’s needs. Additionally, some of these companies are pulling out of certain markets. We do have a plan to offer alternate markets either midterm or at renewal to alleviate any concerns you or your insured may have. Tuscano will weather this change with both character and style and in the end, minimal disruption to you and your customer. Did I mention I have my doubts about the disruption in Washington?

The best part about being a wholesaler is that we have options and alternatives! I love the fact that we have a dozen different ways to write a vacant property. And, we can write a dozen different types of properties that are vacant! It doesn’t matter if you have a small dwelling or a large manufacturing operation, the underwriters at Tuscano are eager to help you. Even though the typical vacant risk does not stay on the books very long, this is the kind of business your customer needs your help to get. I like to think we are investing in your reputation by being insurance-problem-solvers and we receive the satisfaction of a job well done.

Hey – unlike some government offices, we are answering the phones – so call us!
