For better or worse, one of my favorite topics to write about is my family, though I am guessing that my children are too involved in their lives to even know they are a regular feature. My oldest is a freshman at Dickinson University. Recently she called us and asked for a quick weekend home to ‘get away’. While she is loving every minute of college life, it was funny to hear her explain she needed a little ‘alone time’ and a break from the ‘struggle bus’!

Of course I had to ask, “What is the struggle bus?” According to Grace, it is the term young adults use to express their feelings about the direction their life is headed and the pressures they face. It was funny to listen to how she and her friends describe their ‘struggles’. I am sure there is a perfect balance to being serious enough about life and learning versus putting too much pressure on yourself and worrying about what you are going to do with the rest of your life. If you have a freshman in college, maybe you can relate.

I know there are a few folks in our business riding the ‘struggle bus’, but I don’t think it is a philosophical struggle!
