Sometimes we like to inspire our children and tell them they can be anything they want – astronaut, scientist, Olympic athlete – but the truth is they can’t be anything they want, they can only be what they are willing to work and sacrifice for.

I know one thing for certain – I never, ever want to be President of the USA - one disparaging comment and I would want to curl up in a fetal position (well maybe only my inner child would want to). However, I think being commissioner of the National Football League would be a plum job. A recent article in USA Today (my favorite paper to read while on vacation) stated how the NFL plans to more than double their revenue in the next 10 years from $10 billion to $25 billion.

What Commissioner Goodell comes across sounding like is a spoiled child whose parents told him he could be anything he wanted when he grew up - but they left out the hard work and sacrifice part. For the rest of us, we have to labor, sweat, and coax; and we have to surround ourselves with really talented people who make us better, as well as awesome business partners who provide top-notch insurance products. After all, we can’t auction off a new football franchise when we need a cash infusion. It seems obvious to me that Commissioner Goodell cares little about the 12th man who, as a result, will be in serious jeopardy when a stadium beer costs $20 and the cheap seats start at $250.

Well, I hope my little rant about the NFL doesn’t get me in too much trouble. I carefully steered clear of any partisanship towards one team or another (because if it’s not the Steelers… who cares?) Though I would like to give a shout out to the Seattle Seahawks football organization for executing a nearly flawless game and showing what blood, sweat, and tears can win you. Congratulations to the Super Bowl XLVIII winners.
